Persistence is the Name of the Game

I have to be honest. The reasons that I haven’t posted for quite a while are two-fold. First, the pandemic hit, and it has been hard to focus on anything else. That has taken much of my psychic energy. I have spent time at home, reading, exercising, zooming (a new word?) with friends, and trying to write. But I haven’t felt inspired. Secondly, a few months ago, I found out that a well-established children’s book author signed a contract to write a book about Annie Londonderry. I have been writing about Annie for the past three years. I spent a year’s mentorship, tens of drafts, and revisions on my Annie Londonderry story. I hit the pause button. Thinking about the past years as “training” has helped, but it still set me back. Here comes the good news. I entered a writing contest on #PBchat and submitted two stories for consideration. My new picture book biography received an honorable mention, which entitles me to a free manuscript critique with an author whom I much admire. My creative juices are now flowing. I am back in the game. We will see where this goes.
